6 Ways You Can Quickly Boost Your Energy While Pregnant

If having boundless energy while you’re pregnant seems like a completely foreign concept, you’re not alone. More than half of all pregnant women report fatigue during pregnancy, that doesn’t take into account all of us who are ‘just’ feeling tired. There’s good reason for this, your body is doing the hardest work it has ever done, and likely you’re doing much more in life than relaxing at home while you grow a little human. So how do you become this mythical creature known as the energetic pregnant woman, without reaching for the sugar-and-caffeine double whammy?  

How to Boost Your Energy While Pregnant

1. Mindful Exercise

While it may sound counterintuitive to exercise while you’re feeling low on energy, it will actually energise you by increasing the level of oxygen, blood, and nourishment to your body. Anything that gets you on your feet is going to be worth it. Try some low-impact exercise, or group exercise with other pregnant women. Incorporating mindfulness into exercise will add a sense of calm to your newly energized body.

2. Eat More Frequently

Some women describe pregnancy as a ‘constant meal for nine months’ and there’s good reason for needing this extra fuel. Your body is in high-production mode, production of a little human that is! Eat every 3-4 hours and ensure a good mix of macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein and fat) at each sitting. This will help to keep your energy levels up while your body is busy growing your baby.

3. Prioritize Self-Care

Whether this is your first or fifth pregnancy, no matter where it is on the scale of easy to difficult, there are there is no truer thief of energy than stress, anxiety, and worry. To avoid these, use self-care practices which will also give you tools to handle challenges in the pregnancy or life, if they arise. Find out what works for you. Is it a bath? A massage? Switching off your phone? Relaxing in the sun? Saying ‘No’ to a social engagement? Whatever it may be, do it and make it a priority.

4. Nourish Yourself

Any food you eat can be considered ‘energy’ for your body, but what you’ll want to look for are the nutritious and energy-boosting ingredients. Key nutrients to help with energy production and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue including magnesium, iron, and vitamins B6, B12 and C. Whether you’re an avid ‘healthy eater’ or have nutrition in focus because of your pregnancy, it’s a great time to build good eating habits that you can take through with you after the birth of your child.
